Reason for choosing Plattsburgh ?

Ashley chose Plattsburgh because it was really close to home. She is very close with her family and wanted to have them close by. She also chose it because of the degree program she is in. SUNY Plattsburgh has one of the best education programs in the SUNY system. She also came to Plattsburgh to play softball. "The team and coaching staff are great and we are all one big family. " - Ashley Marshall

Started playing softball when?

Ashley started playing softball when she was really young. she always went to her dad’s baseball/softball games when he played in different leagues. It was her favorite thing to do. Ashley started playing in the backyard with her dad when she was about 3 or 4. She then started playing softball in a girl’s league when she was in third of fourth grade. She has played every position over the years with the exception of catcher. Ashley played on a traveling team in the summer starting when she was 11. She played for The Adirondack Diamonds traveling team for six years. This team was originally out of Plattsburgh, but then after a few years it was run out of Malone. Ashley started playing Varsity Softball for Franklin Academy when she was in eighth grade. She received three All Northern Athletic Conference three times and in her senior year was named MVP of the division. Ashley also earned MVP of her team during that year.  She earned three academic All NAC awards while playing softball in high school. During her years playing varsity softball she helped her team win 5 Section Ten Class A Championships, and during her senior year they went to the Final Four.

Other sports played before?

In high school Ashley was a three sport athlete playing soccer basketball and softball. By the time she was in ninth grade she was on the varsity team for all three sports. During the 2007-2008 school year (junior year) her basketball team won the Class A State Championship.

Favorite professional sports/teams?

Ashley doesn't have many favorite professional teams. She mostly likes watching college athletics- especially division 1 softball and men’s and women’s basketball. She do however like watching the NFL and her favorite team is the Giants. She also like watching the USA Softball team.

Something you’re proud of and WHY?

Something that Ashley is very proud of is wining a State Championship in High School, winning a SUNYAC title while in college, and making it to the World Series.

Other hobbies you enjoy?

Ashley like to hang out with friends, read, and do just about any activity outside.

Favorite Food?

Ashley's favorite food is pizza and chicken wings.

Favorite community service experience and WHY?

Ashley's favorite community service activity that she has done is working with the Special Olympics. When she played travel/summer softball sometimes a few members of my team would help out with events that they were putting on. Our Softball team at Plattsburgh State has also worked with the Special Olympians on many occasions. Ashley loves working with them and seeing how happy the athletes are at being able to play a sport that they really love. They are always so excited to have our help and she loves being there.

Favorite moment so far while being a part of the Plattsburgh State Softball Team and
WHY?

Ashley's absolute favorite moment so far was beating Cortland to win SUNYACS and going to Regionals and then going on to the Division III Softball Championship. Our team was just so in sync and playing at the best of our abilities during that whole stretch of time that it was the best softball she have ever played. It was an experience of a lifetime and she was able to share it with a lot of amazing people.

Goals set while at Plattsburgh ?

Some of the goals Ashley set for herself are to leave with no regrets, Earn her bachelors degree and her masters degree, get a teaching job, become a softball coach one day soon.

Plans after college?

After college Ashley plans on having a teaching job and coaching while at that school. Hopefully someday she will be able to become a college coach.

"I am extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to play so many sports in my career. I am so glad that I was able to be a part of something bigger than myself by playing a college sport. It has opened so many doors for me and allowed me to meet so many people."- Ashley Marshall
