Sam Moss

Name: Samantha Moss
Number: 9
Position: Pitcher
Year: Freshman
From: Smithtown, Long Island NY
Major: Fitness and Wellness
Minors: Business

Reason for choosing  Plattsburgh  ?
Sam chose Plattsburgh because when she visited the school, she immediately fell in love with the campus. Plattsburgh offered her major, she just felt very comfortable and right at home.

Started playing softball when?
Sam started playing softball when she was 5 years old on a tee-ball league. "At that age, you just play wherever the coach puts you and hope the ball gets hit to you."- Sam. As she started getting older, she was really interested in pitching. In 7th grade she started to take lessons and play for Long Island travel ball leagues. Sam played for the Long Island Heat, Long Island Bandits and Long Island Express  during her middle and high school years.  In high school softball she earned Rookie of the Year, All Division and All County awards.

Other sports played before?
In middle school she played volleyball, but when high school started she devoted her time to softball only.

Favorite professional sports/teams?
Sam's favorite professional sports team would most definitely be the New York Giants.

Something you’re proud of and WHY?
One thing Sam is proud of is when she pitched the first no-hitter in Smithtown East Varsity Softball history. She was a junior and no one had ever pitched a no-hitter ever before so to be the first one is a pretty special feeling.

Other hobbies you enjoy?
Sam loves to do anything outdoors in the cold or warm climates. She loves going out on her quad in the snow or in the summer to go out on the boat to go water skiing, tubing or parasailing.

Favorite Food?
Sam's favorite food is anything seafood.

Favorite community service experience and WHY?
Sam really enjoyed raking the leaves of the people in the community because we helped the community not by raising money but helping people with the work they couldn't do themselves and that in itself is rewarding.

Favorite moment so far while being apart of the  Plattsburgh   State  Softball Team and WHY?
Sam's favorite moment so far was playing UMass Lowell in our fall ball season because it was such a great experience to play a D2 team and be successful against them. It was only a taste of what is to come in the spring season and she can't wait for what the team will accomplish.

Goals set while at  Plattsburgh  ?
The main goal Sam has is to keep on track with her grades but also stay focused and calm while she's on the mound. She hope to find the balance between school and softball this upcoming spring.

Plans after college?
Sam hopes to one day open her own Fitness Facility for athletes to train with their team but also receive physical therapy as well.
